Justin Johnson
Reports surfaced earlier this week that Gilmer, Texas running back Justin Johnson was wavering on his commitment to Oklahoma after a recent trip to Baylor's summer football camp. Johnson, who committed to the Sooners on Feb. 3, talks to OUInsider.com about the rumors as well as his summer plans.
JUSTIN JOHNSON, RB, 6-0, 210, GILMER, TEXAS:

JH: Recently, you went to a summer camp at the University of Baylor with your friend and teammate Houston Tuminnello. How did he look at the camp?

Bus1: “He looked great at the camp. He is a heck of a player. I think he committed while he was down there and I am proud of him. He did a great job.”

JH: You know how crazy recruiting is? Now that you were seen in Waco some people believe you have an interest in Baylor. Is your commitment to Oklahoma still solid?

Bus1: “Not at all. You see who I am committed to and you know where my heart is at. I did think about it twice going down there, but I had to go down there to help Houston. He wasn’t going to be able to make it back because he had to be back that same day. He wasn’t going to be able to drive back all by himself. I was just being a friend and helped him drive back that night. That was actually my reason for being down there.”

JH: The Waco Tribune had a note in their newspaper saying you were wavering on your commitment. They didn’t have any quotes from you, but they did have the statement. Does that upset you when a newspaper writes something like that?

Bus1: “Yeah, but it has been that way ever since I committed. There is nothing surprising any more. I am not surprised when I read or hear things like that. I knew things like this were going to happen, so it doesn’t shock me that something like that was in a major newspaper.”

JH: Last time we talked you were going to train in Atlanta this summer. Did you know that fellow OU commits Daniel Franklin and Ben Habern were going to be working out there. What is going on in Atlanta?

Bus1: “I haven't been down there, but when I get there I am supposed to hook up with those guys. I know that Ben Habern, J.B. Shugarts and Daniel Franklin are supposed to be there when I get there.”

JH: What is it about this training facility in Atlanta that is drawing a bunch of great high school players from all over the country?

Bus1: “Kent Smith is a great guy and he likes to work with kids our age. He has worked with people like Brian Urlacher and Champ Bailey. He is a great trainer and the exercises that he has are tremendous. He has a great facility and a great family. If you want to get bigger, stronger and faster, it is the place to go.”

JH: How does it make you feel when so many Sooner fans start to panic when they read anything that indicates that you might be wavering on your commitment?

Bus1: “I just wish that they would understand this — The Creed of Champions — when I wrote that put my word into that statement. Oklahoma is where I want to be. I am not going to change my mind. I hate that I put myself into this position when I went down there with Houston, because I just knew that somebody was going to say that they saw me down there. It is just like the other guy (Ohio State site). I told him that I was committed, but he just kept insisting that I was going to visit Ohio State. I wish I would not put myself into that position, but Oklahoma is where I want to be. I have a great bond with the Coach (Cale) Gundy, Coach (Bob) Stoops and Coach Josh Heupel. All of those guys love me and I love them. Oklahoma is where I want to be.”

JH: So in other words, no matter what is being said outside of the state of Oklahoma in any newpaper, on any radio show or on any website, you are committed to Oklahoma and that is that?

Bus1: “Absolutely."
